3 Painting Projects

Exploration projects are under way and I’m about to paint a watermelon for a fun first day of summer collaboration. Life is good!

Crayon layering technique with watercolor. What a twisted idea! I’ve done this before but this time it came out awesome. I guess the trick is to add a little pressure as you draw with crayons. Then go over it with a pretty saturated watercolor wash.

Next up was the thumbprint and fingerprint flower. Now this is a color scheme I thought about. The idea is for the reader to think on what fascinates them. What are they working on right now? It’s clear what my answer is.

Last but not least is string art. I balled up the string and stamped my way all over the paper.

All of these are simple but they create beautiful art. I’ve been working on my lettering too. Oh and this tree will be part of the Live Your Story Book.

Tomorrow’s another day! Yeah. Ok, watermelon painting time.

Master the Medium or Idea?

soon to be featured in Live Your Story book.

….a thought prompted my a recent blog post. First of all I’m a mixed media artist. I love using various paint and fun tools. I do and have wondered how this exploring ties in to the 10,000 hours of practice.

Yes I love working with watercolor and tempera. I feel like my journey has only just begun. There’s lots more I want to learn.

BUT isn’t the point of art to tell a story. I hear more and more artists say that it’s not about the tools or perfection.

It’s about the idea!
