repainting a tree for an audience of one

watercolor painted tree with a tire swingIs this tree is too dark? Does it feel right? The tree got a lot of likes when I posted it on instagram. Yes it has that BRAVE Merida color scheme. This tree is about taking something ordinary and creating something extraordinary-and to always have fun of course. Maybe? I mean it does take bravery–courage to say, “I’m going to take this wheel and turn it into a swing.” I THINK THAT MIGHT BE IT! When I paint I get lost in my old world with these wonderful ideas. It’s only when  I fall out of this magical place that I doubt. It’s true.

On another note, I am half way through the e-book BIG MAGIC and realize I want this book in my studio. Then I listen to an Unmistakable Creative episode and the phrase create for an audience of one hooks me immediately. I need this book in my life too.

For a while I should write my thoughts more often and I intend to for a couple of weeks or so. Maybe Sunday, Wednesday and Friday will work instead of the usual Friday.

I am repainting this tree because there’s not enough wow. Oh but I have an idea!

Notes:

  • creating for an audience of one means you create for yourself
  • it’s a lot funner this way
  • this frees you up to just mix up watercolor and do whatever
  • mix dark blue with green
  • I see lots of hearts and yeah I love that and maybe that’s what others love to.
  • using big brushes and starting with a light layer is best
  • go slightly lighter when painting these shade (tire swing tree) because when scanned they appear darker
  • be delicate when applying color
  • using pastels to give my tree form is a genius idea-not mine
  • I tried using artists tape to paint the square shaped tree and the paint still got all over the place. Maybe the artist tape was old? Was my paint to watery?

paint a pink tree with a q-tip…

pinktree2

I love the color pink and it’s important to surround yourself with what you love. Love brings out the best in you. It would be very hard to help someone be their best without love. There’s this other idea that you could be living your life and all of a sunned there’s this pink tree and it’s so beautiful. This is a great tree and I’m so glad it’s in the wise trees book. I’m so excited and I can’t wait to share it.

notes:

  • use a q-tip
  • or the back of the paint brush to make your dots
  • layer from light to dark
  • mix a little pink with brown to get a perfect shade of brown
  • mix a little brown with the pink and add water to get the perfect pink
  • this technique would be great for painting pomegranate seeds
  • have fun
  • create a journal entry on lessons this project has taught me

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible.

pretty and pink

pinktreeis

One of the last trees I painted for the wise trees book. I created this tree from an actual tree in my home town.

Notes:

  • use a size 10 round brush or bigger
  • use the prettiest pink you can find
  • mix that pink with a little brown for the perfect shade of brown
  • apply the paint in transparencies of pink.
  • start with the lightest color and work up to the hue
  • take the brush and mix the paint the water and spatter here and there
  • flatten some of the splatters to make cool shapes
  • fun shapes will happen

It’s time to scan images, remove backgrounds and work on layout.

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible.

Straw It With Watercolor

Supplies: a straw and my new watercolor palette by Crayola.

I really love this set. Reminds me of painting in elementary school. I found this awesome idea  from a skillshare class. Let’s see what idea do I want to express? You are my sunshine…YES

I was thinking of the sunshine that shines so bright even on dark days : painting, and an awesome song, spending time with those you love and so on.  Sunshine is what helps life grow. Art helps me grow. The thought of others growing too is even better!

First choose the right color. Honey and warm yellows. What about a touch of pretty pink? Paint your  image with lots of water for this activity.

You take your straw and place it over  the wet area and blow. You blow in any direction you want.I blew outward to create beautiful rays of sunshine. Dark days  sometimes happen but you can always have sunshine. I’m working on the lettering layout .
