Let the fun times begin. I ‘ve been drawing letters and today I found myself googling Hallmark lettering artists. Then just now I’m looking at my sketches. This is the “stuff” that I love to do. I’m good at it too.
I’ve also spent time going over the story notes from last summer’s road trip. I had a good time but honestly I had a bad attitude here and there along the way. Wait… this just gave me another thought for the book. Let me go write it down.
Ok so I began sketching from all of the places we visited. The problem is I’m no good at drawing King Tut. I can do a pyramid but….
I glanced over my sketches and realized that my book should be about the thoughts I had along the way.
Beautiful thoughts for a beautiful mind.
Yeah I feel good about this book. Starting this book will help me forget about Live Your Story so I can review it, with a fresh pair of eyes next week.
which brings me to showing up. There’s going to be lots of bad art. I get that now. Show up anyway.
Nothing more than showing up has given me the courage to play and embrace ideas. To once and for all, listen. Big Magic is an amazing read.
I came into this year seeking to improve my drawing skills. I did that with each of the books I wrote. I drew every single picture for Ana & George.
I discovered an awesome palette. I love my drawings. Oh and I’m much better at drawing that which I love. Yes.
I spent a whole year putting this book aside. In a matter of days, long eight hour days sketching and coloring, I finished. Had I not shown up for days all year on other projects, I never could have done this in a matter of days.
seems like so long ago that I had this crazy idea to write a book. I painted trees and wrote. Now I have a collage animal book idea inspired by the man himself Eric Carle, the love poem that will be converted to a book, a flower book…I’ll be creatiing a book dummy for the next book. Oh gosh my heart is pounding.
First I must tie up loose ends with Wise Trees.
I have been repainting AGAIN, making sure all is the best it can be.
This is pretty good. BUT there”s not enough contrast in the spirals.
Maybe the tree needs texture?
Texture is all wrong? I went back and forth. I kept editing and editing… back and forth and looking at the words for the book.
This tree needs a squirrel. Yes, hearts and all lookin good.
There’s always an artist who has everything figured out. They are living the dream and maybe even film a live sketching or painting session. The art is amazing and the artists proceeds to say, this is a mess and it isn’t perfect so I’ll clean it up in photoshop. Ha! Perfection is false. It’s all about the process.
