February 1st?

Time flies when you’re having fun! I just checked and Live Your Love Story is now available. The book is 90 percent the same. I did redo most of the lettering, changed the ending a little and a few minor changes later I am done! Or so I thought. I need to change the cover.

I’ve restocked some prints in my etsy shop.

Different Is Beautiful is looking wonderful. I love the blue tone collection I put together for the front page of my website.

Much more to come. Please subscribe to the tribe. If you do thanks and email me. Let me know what you think of the book.

Have a great weekend!

Make Your Art

This weekend was full of work. I painted, experimented and drew. Finished the edits for Live Your Love Story. The paperback will be ready for Valentine’s Day. I got through the next round of digitizing animals for Different is Beautiful. And I added another big butterfly. There was a few projects for the shop. I redid the potion bottle.

Not a perfect bottle, neither am I. I am here. My gift is my potion. My art is my voice. In this life all that matters is you. You and your gift matter. Just like every fish in the sea and every butterfly that flutters in a spring morn, we all have a purpose. We don’t need a potion. We are the potion. Does that make sense?

Now I need to plan out my week and update my shop.

More Birds and Insects

For three hours straight I cut, glued and created insects, birds and a few more fish. I’m about done. I realized that I painted way too many textures. I want to paint more. But there’s only so much space in the book.

So I have a new list going. I need to create some show stopper textures and colors. Got some weird animals. I sketched a Viper Fish, Grasshopper and a Flying Fox. My Butterflies must be beautiful!

I am reading again. I love to read. Tomorrow I’ll create a photoshoot of my favorite blue supplies. Blue is my favorite color. Blue is a common color in my art.

Favorite Projects and Colors of 2019

I’ll never forget my Lee friends. They painted the heart shaped leaves in all kinds of color and patterns. I arranged them. I want to paint with a fork more often. My Rooster is looking confident. The gingerbread house was so much fun. My Magnolia friends have a special place in my heart. The Adolfo Serra illustration class really helped me realized I can draw. These birds are beautiful. I can reference these for my collage work. That’s right working on birds tomorrow.

The just of it is that all these projects have given me wings to fly. I’m done with my 5th book. I should read it tomorrow morning. Take notes. I am so gratful to have served the students I taught this year. I am grateful for the students who taught me, who am I kidding. I learn from them and I’m still learning. They remind me that there is indeed a place for us all. That we each have a bit of magic and by magic I mean that we can make a difference.

I chose these projects because they just happened. I let my mind wander. I create.

I need to make changes. I’ll think on it and write tomorrow.

Painting Trees

I painted some awesome trees. The moral of this little project is that you can create with all kinds of tools. What a coincidence, my quote expresses this notion.

From top to bottom: fork, cork and thin brush, stick, paper ball, dry stamp, washi tape, more paper, and expo marker.

Dear Inner Critic

Today was a weird day. Not that other days aren’t. Sometimes I have these days where nothing works. I’m learning to get past that by continuing to create. I get an idea and then it gets lost in the process. The acrylic paint was too thick or old. The flirty color scheme didn’t mix right. Maybe I should have went with the blue. Probably. This letter made me smile. Yes it’s funny. Yes, it’s silly.

My scanner didn’t do these colors justice. Good practice. I’m better at drawing letters with brush pens and markers. I’ll add this to the repaint pile. You never now where an idea will lead. Maybe I should start a book collection of various letters. One to curiosity. One to idea. One to imagination. One to….not to bad…not too bad at all.

Road Trip Book has begun

Let the fun times begin. I ‘ve been drawing letters and today I found myself googling Hallmark lettering artists. Then just now I’m looking at my sketches. This is the “stuff” that I love to do. I’m good at it too.

I’ve also spent time going over the story notes from last summer’s road trip. I had a good time but honestly I had a bad attitude here and there along the way. Wait… this just gave me another thought for the book. Let me go write it down.

Ok so I began sketching from all of the places we visited. The problem is I’m no good at drawing King Tut. I can do a pyramid but….

I glanced over my sketches and realized that my book should be about the thoughts I had along the way.

Beautiful thoughts for a beautiful mind.

Yeah I feel good about this book. Starting this book will help me forget about Live Your Story so I can review it, with a fresh pair of eyes next week.

Tomorrow I begin Christmas Tree Designs.

I got to be me…

Once again trying to copy just deosn’t work out for me. I’m better at observing every color, shape and then recreating from memory. I’m not sure what happened here BUT, happened it did. I realize that it’s ok. I’ll go back to the drawing board. I’ll use my color palette for this project and have a go at it tomorrow…

I understand that this in no way means I can’t paint. It just means I need to plan out the color scheme. I’ll relax and just paint MY WAY because I got to be me. The more I paint, the more I learn awesome lessons that lead to embracing my very own style!

Yeah, I layed out all of the pieces I’ve painted so far. I carefully studied the palette from all these paintings. Pinks and blues will work…..no hay imposibles

This always works out for me.

Better Days

It’s always a better day when I paint.

Seriously, I tried doing something I’m not good at. I was trying too hard. Then I sat on a Friday night and repainted.

Oh goodness…

much better

I did include hand lettering on my to-do list.
