Thrill of it all

My eyes are tired. I spent hours rectifying a stupid mistake.

The book was done.

Sure I had a few pictures to clean up and edit one last… few times BUT it was done.

I got home yesterday with this excitement. Today is the day…it was suppose to be.

I had been working on another book and saved the final manuscript under the file name Ana & George. I deleted A& G .

Lots of deep breaths and a heart ache later I realized I’d have to start over.

I did have the paper copy and an old file version but what happened to me.

Was it resistance? Lizard brain? Or just my own dumbness as a result of working so hard to finish all three e-books in a matter of weeks. Probably

I’ve been taken out of my comfort zone. I’m tired. I’ve got passion in my heart. I want more. This is good.

You gotta make that story!

You gotta make that story!–the email that I literally just read. Well, not exactly but the subject line singled me out. I’ve been thinking about this dream of making money doing what I love. I love art. I love art so much, I realize teaching 1st grade at an art program school isn’t the option for me. I love kids. I love learning but that’s not my story.

SO I sat thinking about the first days of my guest teaching. What’s changed since then? I check in, give my all and CHECK OUT. I check out, go home and paint.

What exactly have I done since them? Have I been running in the same place? I have but wait…I’ve painted hundreds of times. I’ve learned to trust my ideas…

The eraser tool has become such a friend! I draw and draw.

If I make a mistake who cares. I ‘ll make it work. What a relief.

I’ve learned that one idea leads to who knows where.

I’ve got this new talk of the town collection I’m working on. I keep jotting down ideas for books and  yeah… the BEST PART OF ME IS I’M A CREATIVE WRITER. I’M A PAINTER. I love love love writing books. I had no idea how to publish a book and Wise Trees is done!

I will do the paper work to make it official and once in for all publish it. I’ve been doing a lot of writing since then and THE TIME IS NOW. NO someday I’ll wish upon a star, as Judy Garland sang. The time is now. No holding back. Back then, I lingered in someday and today I’m shouting THE TIME IS NOW. I have grown so much and I’m  excited for the future because…

Aha moment

homwork

Just now I had a aha momet. I’ve never seen a hand written dictionary before. The writer must be obsessed with words. WAIT!  I used to do the same with my dictionary.  Not excatly, but I too love words. I’d read lots of books. And every time I came across a  beautiful word I’d highlight it in my dictionary. What happend to my dictionary? I gave it away. Why?

I have always loved words. I wanted to preserve beautiful words like unmistakable or frolic.  Hand lettering. Quotes. Books. Music. Wise Trees.  I could go on but it all makes sense. I will write all of my book ideas, ALL OF THEM…

Wise Trees Indeed

So I didn’t make my Read Across America deadline BUT I was sick and still am. I am slowly recovering and something AMAZING happened. After a long LONG  week I got out my paint brushes and painted. With each stroke I felt this charge and painted an awesome tree.

Tree Notes:

  • observe a tree
  • wait a few days and recreate it from memory
  • use the shape of size 10 brush to create the leaf shapes
  • using brown and yellow watercolor for the trunk makes the perfect brown
  • use tempera paint and add the paint in layers going from light to dark

Afterward I reflected on how I felt and literally jumped up like a kid who’s just been told he’s going to Disneyland  That’s how I know that I can’t give this art up. Art is in my blood. It just is. I can’t believe how easy it was to create this beautiful tree. Four trees to go, and I will be ready to scan all of them and start putting the book together . There I go again with a smile.  I see every page and with a deep breath and a smile I know it’s going to be awesome!

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible.

There are always inklings all around us. Some tell us what we should or need to do. Inklings remind us what we did wrong and keep on reminding us. Inklings are so important and yet we ignore them. We invite fear and failure for tea. I read this book on Friday and this line about building a desire and planning for it in a way that doesn’t recognize fear or failure is the key to success. Then there are these inklings that remind us of love and the power it bestows on any of circumstances…if we follow the right INKLINGS.  Imagine all of the people who were surrounded by inklings they didn’t even acknowledge. These inklings are far too great and far to WONDERFUL.

Little WONDERFUL INKINGS this week:

-the book I read and the beautiful line

-the plans I made

-the trees I am painting and more importantly the way I felt as I painted them

-f… wait what’s it called again.

-love wins

-everybody hurts

-you can be of them or of yourself

if you don’t like your life then create a new one

-keep mixing wonderful color

-FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY

-Obsession is key because it leads to all the help and guidance you  need.

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible.

a Daily Prompt: Inkling

Painting a tree with a sponge brush

I am so glad I MADE this awesome brush.  I saw this fantastic brush and I wanted to make one a whole lot smaller. I had this old sponge brush and a fabulous idea…LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

I used a little yellow and green acrylic paint. Did I mix in tempera paint? I may have. All I know is I applied the paint in layers. First yellow and then green. I wanted to build up contrast and get these various tones of green. I applied paint and magic happened…this breeze and the yellow just gives it a warm carefree rhythm. I love it. Another tree for the wise trees book.

V tree

I simply had an idea and 15 minutes later it turned out BRILLIANT! More trees to paint and …WAIT A MINUTE… I should continue this mixed media exploration for the next book side project. YES I shall paint fabulous animal characters for my Ana Bee and George Bird book. Sounds like a fabulous idea. I love working on art and there’s NOTHING in the world I’d rather do and I love so much! Thank goodness for that!!
