paint brush? Johnny tree…

(just going to be reviewing some of my favorite trees for the wise trees book while I make exciting changes?)

with tempera paint and a little watercolor.appletree

I’m so proud of this tree and all that it stands for. I mean Johnny Appleseed is this guy who had an awesome dream and with just one seed…just one idea he changed the world. The more I think about it the crazier it seems. He traveled by foot all over for MILES AND MLES just planting seeds. Today I can drink apple juice. Oh and I did just that the other day. In a bagel shop I bought a Martinelli’s apple juice, yes the kind that comes in a apple shaped glass. From the smile to the childhood memory to the thirst quenching on a hot spring day, I thank Johnny.  Now that I realize it every single seed I spread always made a difference. The moment I realized this oh my whole world changed. Every dream is worth exploring and walking MILES AND MILES FOR no matter how crazy it seems. I say if it sounds crazy then maybe your on to something big.

I can hardly believe that my book is near completion. I’m so proud of this book.

notes:

  • use the bottom of a round craft sponge brush to get this awesome pattern
  • imagine what happens when I find extraordinary ways to use ordinary objects
  • use tempera paint
  • used watercolor for the apples but probably should of went with tempera or acrylic
  • layer light to dark when stamping
  • as you stamp think about the story and let color tell it.
  • just stamp and see what patterns emerge ( I stamped a heart)
  • dark color for the leaves
  • choose a shape for the leaves that symbolize togetherness, earth and so much more so yes a circle seems fine
  • love your design and share it.
  • create awesome contrast (light tree trunk and beautiful vibrant color for the leaves)

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible…I just love the thinks I think up!

Wise Trees Indeed

Wise trees book

So I didn’t make my Read Across America deadline BUT I was sick and still am. I am slowly recovering and something AMAZING happened. After a long LONG  week I got out my paint brushes and painted. With each stroke I felt this charge and painted an awesome tree.

Tree Notes:

  • observe a tree
  • wait a few days and recreate it from memory
  • use the shape of size 10 brush to create the leaf shapes
  • using brown and yellow watercolor for the trunk makes the perfect brown
  • use tempera paint and add the paint in layers going from light to dark

Afterward I reflected on how I felt and literally jumped up like a kid who’s just been told he’s going to Disneyland  That’s how I know that I can’t give this art up. Art is in my blood. It just is. I can’t believe how easy it was to create this beautiful tree. Four trees to go, and I will be ready to scan all of them and start putting the book together . There I go again with a smile.  I see every page and with a deep breath and a smile I know it’s going to be awesome!

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible.

Painting a tree with a sponge brush

I am so glad I MADE this awesome brush.  I saw this fantastic brush and I wanted to make one a whole lot smaller. I had this old sponge brush and a fabulous idea…LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!

I used a little yellow and green acrylic paint. Did I mix in tempera paint? I may have. All I know is I applied the paint in layers. First yellow and then green. I wanted to build up contrast and get these various tones of green. I applied paint and magic happened…this breeze and the yellow just gives it a warm carefree rhythm. I love it. Another tree for the wise trees book.

I simply had an idea and 15 minutes later it turned out BRILLIANT! More trees to paint and …WAIT A MINUTE… I should continue this mixed media exploration for the next book side project. YES I shall paint fabulous animal characters for my Ana Bee and George Bird book. Sounds like a fabulous idea. I love working on art and there’s NOTHING in the world I’d rather do and I love so much! Thank goodness for that!!
