Painting Blue Bonnet flowers

I researched photos and watched a tutorial. I made previous attempts.

This morning I took a second look at what went wrong and painted. I added a few more layers. I used a size 10 brush. A size 10 brush made it easy to do the diagonal right and left strokes for each petal. I had the right tones of blue purple. I finished up with warm vanilla acrylic paint. Oh how I love this white acrylic.

The two big lessons here are fall in love with the process . The other is that there are no mistakes. Bouns idea: This would be a great thumbprint project for kids. I should try this.

I’ve decided once and for all that this book is a journal of a road trip. Sketches in pen and watercolor will do just fine. It’s ok if it’s a little messy. It’s a journal right?

Oh, I was suppose to sketch my shoes. I’ll sketch and paint them tomorrow.

More sketches

Markers worked for a few of the details but not for the hotel. I do have acrylic paint. That works. I keep going. I’m all for painting texture pages but now there’s scrapbook patterns.

Writing a book is harder than working on one piece. I’ m working on a million pieces at once.

I’m going to take my time and understand:

  • girl there’s going to be 100’s of illustrations
  • my drawing will improve
  • I need to step up my watercolor game too.
  • let’s face it you need opaque color.
  • transparency is terrible for scanning
  • I need to work on cleaning up my flies better

Ok for now I should spend the evening reading and sketching with a pencil.
