try new things

Idea 1 : Paint some cool clouds with this cotton pom-pom. Not bad.

Idea 2: Use a little India ink to paint a heart. That was fun.

Maybe I should rethink the color here?

…but the more I look at it, the more I like it
…which one has the right vibe.

Who you are is a wonder to behold. Which one has that vibe. I’m going to say the 1st is easier on the eye and sporadically feels right…

Idea 3: Paint a heart character ( idea 2and 3 are for the book)

Idea 4 : This idea came from a book. The passage is something like this,” Most fish talk. You just have to be willing to listen. One, of course must want to hear.

india ink is beautiful but the fish and lettering need help…

“What an awesome way to say believe in the impossible. The impossible can happen but one must be willing to think it so.

Idea : 5 It’s been raining a whole lot and yesterday the sun came out. To bask in the glory of nature one must experience pouring rain. Oh it’s so true because the skies are ever so blue, crisp and clean. The first glimpse of sun always warms me on a cold day after a storm. It did today. Then …we’ll there goes the awesome clouds I made this morning.

Oh well ,you win some and you lose some. It’s the game of trying new things. I have two projects down for the book. I still have to think about the lettering layout. I can’t obsess because I got this. I will paint the words, practice watercolor. I want this book out there. People are going to love it. They already love the poem…no hay imposibles.

Whimsical Tree

IMAG0131

I am not happy with this tree. I knew better. How could I not mix up the perfect brown?

SO I repainted over it. I had to make it work and I may have…

hug tree.png

I’m not liking the dark areas, especially the left corner.  I do love the idea.  If there’s time I will repaint this exact tree.

Notes:

  • use green and orange to make the perfect brown
  • Why did I mix the wrong color? Maybe It’s time to clean my palette?
  • more contrast
  • add more blue
  • test out other brushes
  • an angle brush works good
  • do I want to have leaves go in all directions?
  • It’s great to paint with a brush any other way except for the “right way””
  • Wait I should try this exercise?

I realize that all of my trees are whimsical. I question why I painted all the trees without dirt or grass–except for a few.

I thought about changing this but why should I. Maybe it brings home the idea that each tree is valuable. That individual value has to come first before the worldly value comes. YEESSS. I knew curiosity had a reason. We are almost done.

There are no impossibilities

painting a purple tree…

with a cotton swab. Well I tried and it didn’t turn out well. But then it did.

I  mixed-up the right beautiful pink. Or wait I meant purple. These are purple shades but they do have some pinkness to them. I love that. I’m not one for purple purple but these are awesome.

palette looks amazing (still looking for a heart shaped one)

testing the color before I start painting. Most of these are too dark.

Purple paint swatches

Oh my …I am rolling my eyes and taking breaths. Literally I sat down with an idea; the idea for a purple tree has been on my mind. The tree I painted last week came out awesome.   Sometimes ideas have a mind of their own but, the fun is in experimenting.

First attempt notes: cotton swabs are fun to work with, need more contrast  and the green is all wrong

Second attempt notes: The tree trunk came out awesome. The texture and color with the purple was amazing. SO I had to goof it up. I started layering with a brush and a mess happened. I don’t know. I almost threw it away. Somehow I love it.

Third attempt notes: OK forget about the cotton swab and alter course. I liked where this was going until I applied too much dark.

Fourth time is the charm: I went back to the original tool,  took my time and fixed the contrast. Looking good!  The idea for this tree is that trees come in all colors and are beautiful. This is the last tree I pant for the wise trees book. Oh maybe not since I still have the book cover to work on.

Painting this purple tree was a real surprise.

Notes:

  • good lesson on if a first you don’t succeed
  • first ideas are often the best ones
  • so now I have all these cool textures that need lovin’.
  • Maybe this is the start of another book about cute animals in all different shapes and shades. Yes lets. Who knows.
  • there’s a whole world out there to explore
  • mixing acrylic with tempera works
  • don’t forget to keep that brush or cotton swab moist with paint and a little water
  • or that could be an awesome texture too
  • so in terms of mixing the more red you add the darker the purple.

Imagine all the impossibilities that are possible.
