Color and textures

Oh if these colors and textures of past projects could talk. They would say… Fear not. I’m part of your process. Feck Perfuction. I was the color who brighten your gloomy days. I was the texture that invited curiosity to play. I was the color that took your tears and said, There now sweet child you’ll be ok. I was the color blue that made you believe. Yes my green helped you paint trees. Why it’s us pink and green that inspired trees. And it’s us the passion of your life. We’ve been through it all. Oh with you by my side life is a ball! Yeah….there are no impossibilities

Windsor Gouache…

is incredible. Oh my gosh I now have the perfect color for painting Peter Pan’s flight night sky.

Pink and blue flowers? I think so.

Premium is so much more pigmented. I could have just painted blobs and it’d still be beautiful.

Notes:

  • the key to working with gouache is just enough water to make it easy to glide on the page.
  • I should’t go over it either. I needed to let it dry before I add layers.
  • oh doing swatches would be good

Audrey Hepburn was a true Hollywood queen. For when the world said, ‘ You can’t act. You’re not pretty enough. She was. I think of her strolling along with her big black hat and sunglasses. Strolling along with such a smile that…oh wait what are they uttering?

Gives me lots to think about as I begin a new year of exploration. I will experiment with texture, objects and color. I do have two books to write. I’m just getting started.

Oh Christmas Tree

I haven’t painted cards for a long time. Card making is a tradition for me. Not sure how it started. I guess I simply wanted to create something fun and handmade.

Super simple acrylic painted cards

  1. Kraft Paper is nice to paint on.
  2. Use acrylic paint in festive colors.
  3. Deviate with an uncommon color like pink or neon green
  4. Good idea to test different brushes in both size and texture
  5. Dots are simple and fun
  6. This is good to create textures and practice painting…yeah I took a class with Ana Victoria Calderon
  7. Oh I have an idea to paint hearts for Valentine’s Day
  8. Love it
  9. I do need practice with watercolor.

Thinking Map

I have an idea for my logo. I’m thinking peacock. They chase off preditors, are symbols of compassion and kindness. Oh it’s perfect. Maybe I can incorporate living coral into the blue color scheme I have planned. Yeah why not. I’m excited for all the projects to come.

Ugly Light

I had this design in my sketch book for way too long.

So why did I hold onto it. Well I don’t like to paint or wear black. I do like the little black dress…

Today I looked at my design tucked in a brand new pad of watercolor paper. I placed it there as a work in progress.

I painted with a deep purple.

Doesn’t the idea of a purple hat add fun to what I’m trying to say? Yes. Nothing speaks more to me than the purple tone. When you let go of what they’ll say, magic happens.

I imagine a woman walking down the street. All eyes are on her. Some are jealous. Some are uttering how much they hate purple. “Who would wear a purple hat?” they’ll laugh. All the while she is walking, smiling and wearing her hat never even noticing.

When you let go and be you, you could be Audrey Hepburn. Yes.

Practice leads to Adventure

seems like so long ago that I had this crazy idea to write a book. I painted trees and wrote. Now I have a collage animal book idea inspired by the man himself Eric Carle, the love poem that will be converted to a book, a flower book…I’ll be creatiing a book dummy for the next book. Oh gosh my heart is pounding.

First I must tie up loose ends with Wise Trees.

I have been repainting AGAIN, making sure all is the best it can be.

More spirals?

This is pretty good. BUT there”s not enough contrast in the spirals.

squirrel tree

Maybe the tree needs texture?

lovespiraltree

Texture is all wrong?  I went back and forth. I kept editing and editing… back and forth and looking at the words for the book.

This tree needs a squirrel. Yes, hearts and all lookin good.

There’s always an artist who has everything figured out. They are living the dream and maybe even film a live sketching or painting session. The art is amazing and the artists proceeds to say, this is a mess and it isn’t perfect so I’ll clean it up in photoshop.  Ha! Perfection is false. It’s all about the process.

Wise Trees book cover

I am procrastinating the final stages of my wise trees book. It’s true I have. I admit it to you world. The bigger question is WHY? I’m afraid of what” they’ll” think. Wise Trees came to me as I was strolling through the park, just me and Roxy.  Since then I have painted many MANY trees. I have written and REWRITTEN many times.

Yeah… this tree and the color works

I Believe this book is awesome. I know it is BUT I am curious what the world will think? I keep painting and repainting trees.

I pencil in a time to register my book with the Library of Congress but have yet to do so. It’s time I know it is. There are many other books calling my name. I want and need to answer before the excitment ceases. I can eaither hold on to this book for a long time or go with what I feel and revel in that I already know that kids love my trees.

To do list

  • hand write a few pages
  • put together the book
  • digitally clean up some of the trees
  • Show my work-publish it
