I’m curious about EVERYTHING. I’m a thinker. I use blues, pinks, yellows and greens and nature to express my ideas. My blog is a creative journal for all the thinks I think up.
Art is powerful. Art connects us. That’s why I love music. My art is about curiosity and love. I want to share that adventure with people. I get lost in my world, feel free and happy when I paint. If I could inspire others to experience that then, it’s a win-win.
As a kid I loved paint by number books, finger painting, markers and watercolor. I’ve always been creative, curious and imaginative. I could read a book and immerse myself in that world for days. Recently I read about an artist who said, “My inner world is my playground.” I completely agree. Art is me, always has been, always will be. It’s a LOVE STORY.
I pushed the idea of being an artist away, for a long time, but the more I did, the more I realized art and I, we are one. So you see, even though I left art, art never left me.
Describe your process?
Love and let the kid play. Love gives you courage to follow ideas. Love says,”OK curiosity and imagination let’s create.” I use watercolor, tempera and acrylic. I like to experiment with fun tools like spoon forks and a sponge brush I made. I like uneven sporadic vintage block lettering.
What advice would you give to new artists?
Show up every day and let the kid play. #Show your work The book is awesome and your right, nobody cares about your work at first. The good news is you share and create. You need to show up no matter how much your art sucks because that’s the only way to learn and get rid of all the junk standing in your way.
You are your biggest naysayer so stop. Find your happy place and create there. Read Big Magic and Think and Grow Rich. Just be yourself. You’ll make dumb mistakes but its part of the journey.
Take your time because it will be a while. In the beginning you can’t be about money but in the end you’ll have it. It’s not going to be like so and so but it’ll be yours.
Where does your artist inspiration come from: Everyone…I am intrigued by how and why they create.
An off the top of my head list:
Ana Victoria Calderon, Yasmina Creates, James Victore, Frida Kahlo, Raphael’s School of Athens reminds me of our wonderful world of ideas. Eric Carle’s collage art is amazing! The fact that his genius Hungry Caterpillar came from punching holes in a paper is crazy. Ian Barnard, Walt Disney, Lauren Daigle, Andy Warhol and many more.
Works In Progress
love story book, collage animals we are one book, lots of ways to create flowers book, more short stories. I started a words hand lettered collection. I want to explore texture, color and really put to paper all the thoughts I have.
Something interesting (weird) about me…
I tilt my head-get lost in thoughts…people ask what I’m thinking about. (laughs) As a kid I had this habit of asking why. I still do!
